View Full Version : Server help
Hey guys I made a CoD4 server and we were playing on it for about an hour. Then it just wouldn't show up as being online anymore. It was still running and changing maps and letting me make changes but no one can "see" it. I have forwarded the port for it and the IP didn't change. I am pretty new to this kind of stuff but I am eager to learn all I can. Any help you guys could give as fas as setings or even a config file I could get would be great. When I get it all worked out you all are welcome to play on it. Thanks!

Where is it not showing up at are you just not able to connect to it anymore because if that is the case and you see the server running but no one can connect it could be many different things please give me a bit more detail on how you set it up the commands you used to start the server and are you using mixed rotation or a standard map rotation file there can be many reasons why this is not working.
First thing i would check is the map rotation
The server is running on my PC 2.8Ghz phenom II x4 @3.2Ghz 4Gb DDR2 1066. I was running the server and playing on the same pc with a FPS of 200+ and a ping of 15 :). I did change the config file sometime before it stopped letting us see it on the favorite server page in multi. The command I used to start the server is "+set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 0 +exec dedicated.cfg +map_rotate" without the quotes ;)

if you can not see it just type in lobby or main screen ` connect ip
I can connect to it only as a local server
OK when I first made the server we were connecting through the WAN IP and now we can only connect through my LAN IP. Is this normal or am not setting something right. I am not sure if anyone outside my network can see it because of it being a local IP. I don't know if it helps but my router is the standard At&t 2Wire router/dsl modem. I have went to portforward.com and set it up like they said but the port is not open. Confused......................................

i can build one in my sleep but it is better to see what i am working with
Well it helps when you have the cfg file in the right folder.............DOH! I just dropped it in the Activision folder and not the Main folder (my logic the activision folder is the "main"folder). All better now just need to tweak the map rotation and game types.

YOu can do it a few different ways as long as the start command in the exe is directed to the correct one.
